Hey 20 Somethings!
So today I am going to talk about something very dear to me. Hair. More specifically, Natural Hair.
It took me a long time to start wearing my hair natural, I spent most of my childhood and primary school days straightening my hair. No one used their GHD more than me. By the time I turned 14 my hair was dry and damaged due to the abuse I had put it through.
And it wasn’t easy to start wearing it natural. I had to deal with extended family members laughing at me, people asking me how I deal with this “bush” on my head etc. I grew a thick skin pretty fast. But I learned to love my natural hair, now it’s kind of my trade mark. People know me as “The Girl with the Big Hair”.
So let’s talk about wearing your hair natural.
First of all, you gonna have to get used to a lot of things. Stupid questions for one. I’ve had people ask me if I can straighten my hair and how (Guys, GHD’s work for curly hair too.), when I tie my hair in a pony tail, people ask me how I am able to fit it all into a small hair tie. People ask me how I brush it. How I get it into a bun. How I get it to curl. THE. LIST. GOES. ON.

Anyways, moving on. Let’s talk about Curly Hair Hacks!
1. Comb your hair out in the Shower.
This will prevent your curls from coming apart and frizzing. Shampoo and condition your hair as usual, and then brush your hair out while the conditioner is still on. This will make sure that the conditioner is reaching every inch of your hair and it will make your hair easier to comb. (Switch the shower off though, let’s save water guys!)
Use a wide-toothed comb to brush your hair, starting from the tips and working your way up to the roots.
2. Leave Some Conditioner In.
Or leave it all in. There are no Conditioner police who are going to come after you. And guess what? Leaving conditioner in your hair will help keep your hair from frizzing PLUS, you’re getting some much needed extra moisture.

3. Coconut Oil. Coconut Oil. Coconut Oil!
Coconut Oil saves lives. Don’t argue with me on this one. Coconut oil is BAE. It can be used as a deep conditioner before showering. Leave it in your hair for 10-15 mins before getting into the shower. You can then shampoo and condition it as usual.
4. Try Co-Washing
If your hair is naturally very dry. Try Co-Washing, which is basically washing your hair but leaving the shampoo out of your routine. So just Conditioner. This can be done once a week or as often as needed.
5. Find a Mousse or Hair Oil that works for you.
There are thousands of products available on the market that promise you defined curls and no more frizz. But no one can tell you what’s gonna work for your hair until you’ve tried it yourself. A Mousse can be added after a wash to define your curls or to dry hair, to give your curls an extra boost.

So those are my 5 Hacks to wearing my hair natural! Over the next few weeks I will be reviewing products which are specified for Curly Hair. I’ll be sharing all my favourite products with you, so we can flourish together.
Until next time!
love the hair…I miss my curls!
