Whats Up 20 Somethings!
So I have been reviewing natural hair products all year long, and I’ve posted most of my reviews on YouTube. You can watch them here.
As 2019 draws to an end, I’ve decided to list my favourite products of 2019! Yay! Lets go!
But I can only pick on favourite and the L’Oreal Elvive Extrodinary Oil Low Shampoo was by far my favourite! Watch my first review here!
Favorite Shampoo and Conditioner Range
But my fave has to be Aunt Jackie’s! Their products all just work so well with each other.
I was on the hunt for a great detangler this year, because when I say I have knots, I mean, I HAVE KNOTS.
After seeing everyone rave about it I finally tried “Knot on my Watch” from Aunt Jackie’s, and I will never use anther detangling product again! I’ll write a review early in 2020.
Favourite Leave-In Conditioner
Not even gonna play, Cantu Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream. It’s the best trust me.
Favorite Curl Activator
Now I’ve always been an Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La girl, but this year I tried a few new curl activators like; Creme of Nature and Vatika and I must say, Vatika has become my new favourite. Its amazing and affordable.
Favorite Hail Gel
I Love the Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Don’t Shrink Gel, it works wonders for my curls without making my hair flake or feel hard. It’s A medium hold, but I even use it to set my edges, with a little bit of hairspray. LOVE.
I used Aunt Jackie’s ALOT this year but I also started trying Cantu and I have to say I am impressed. Their products are a bit pricier but the quality is out of this world and my hair feels amazing!
Bonus Category: Favorite Hair Dye
Revlon Colorsilk. Hands down, best at home dye ever.
And that’s all folks. Thank you all for an amazing 2019. Thanks for all the love and support you’ve all shown. I hope you all have a blessed 2020.
Here’s to more make-up, curls and living our best lives.
Until next year!
Whatsup 20 Somethings!
So if you follow me on Instagram, I have been trialling the latest products in the Tresemme Botanic Range for the past few weeks and I am excited to let you know what I think of them.
I’ve previously reviewed the Botanic Shampoo and Conditioner and the Co-Wash. Today’s review is focussing on the three new products in the range: The Rich Oil Mist, The Hair Food and the Pre-Wash Detangling Butter.
So a little background: Tresemme realised that South African women were wanting products for their natural hair that would help nourish and protect dry and damaged hair. So the South African Tresemme Team started to work on their own range for South African Women, by South African women, and this is how the Botanic Range was born. This range focusses on replenishing the moisture of your hair to leave it feeling soft and healthy. All the products are enriched with coconut oil and Aloe vera and is also free from silicones and dyes.
About the products…
The Hair Food: R39.99
This lightweight formula will help relieve dry and itchy scalp, while maintaining and protecting the hair’s natural moisture.
How to use:
Use the Botanic Moisture & Replenish Hair Food on damp or dry hair. Divide the hair into sections or lines using a tail comb. Base the hair food onto the exposed scalp. Massage the scalp working your way evenly onto the tips of your hair.
I love the way this product leaves my hair, as it’s incredibly shiny and light weight. You must not mistake it for a styling product however, this will not prevent frizz or define your curls- it’s main purpose is to lock in moisture an protect your hair and scalp. It’s a great product for women who are wearing protective styles, like braids, but want to ensure the health of their hair and scalp. I don’t think this is the right product for me with Type 3C hair, I’d recommend this for ladies with Type 4 Hair. Try not to use too much as it’s extremely oily.
Rich Oil Mist: R139.99
The formula of the Rich Oil Mist contains a botanical blend of coconut, corn and sunflower seed oils, with a splash of aloe vera. This product moisturises and softens the hair and helps make it more manageable. It’s meant to define the driest locks and leave the hair feeling moisturised and soft.
How to use:
Start with our Botanic Moisture & Replenish collection of shampoo and treatments to deeply cleanse and moisturise your hair. Our botanic rich oil mist can be applied on damp or dry hair.
For fine to normal hair, rub 1-2 pumps in the palms of your hands and apply from mid-lengths to ends.
For very dry hair, apply 3-4 pumps divide hair into sections and apply from root to tips.
This really did leave my hair feeling incredibly moisturised and soft, however I did not feel that it helped define my curls at all, I achieve better definition from other curl defining products, which annoys me that Tresemme describes it as a product that will help with definition. If you suffer from very dry hair, this is the product for you. However at R139.99 I do think it’s a unnecessary addition to your hair routine if you’re already using product that are made specifically for dry hair. It also left my hair feeling quite oily. Not my favourite product in the world.
Pre-Wash Detangling Butter: R79.99
This product is meant to make your wash routine easier. It detangles 4 times faster with less breakage and damage to the hair, according to Tresemme. It’s paragon free and dye free.
How to use:
How to use: Begin with the Botanic Moisture & Replenish Pre-wash Detangling Butter for notted and tangled hair. Split dry hair into sections and apply a generous amount from root to tips. Leave in for 3 minutes and gently comb to detangle hair. Rinse thoroughly and follow with the Botanic Shampoo and Conditioner routine for a clean and soft feel or use the Botanic Co-wash for intense moisturisation.
I was very excited when I heard about this product as I suffer from very tangled hair as well has extreme breakage. I like that it’s a pre-wash routine, which means that your hair is left manageable for the rest of your wash. On my first application I struggled to comb the product through dry hair and suffered from A LOT of breakage, I then experimented with dampening my hair after I had left the product on for three minutes and then combing through and this worked A LOT better for me. It makes your hair feel like silk which means it’s easy to comb through without much hassle.
It’s my favourite product in the new range of products.
Is it my favourite detangling product ever? No. But at R79.99 its worth adding to your hair routine if your hair is known to tangle.
If you wanna shop the Botanic Range you can use my link to get 30% off, as well as FREE SHIPPING!
I Suggest buying the shampoo and conditioner, the co-wash and the Pre-Wash Detangling Butter.
Let me know what you think of this range!
Until next time!

What’s up 20 Somethings!
So I’ve been using one of the products I got in the Clicks Curls Goodie Bag for the past week: the Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk, Leave-in Moisturizer.
When I looked at the bottle I was like, “What is “Hair milk” even?” So let me tell you a bit about this product and the Carol’s Daughter Brand!
Carol’s Daughter Brand:
The brand was started by Lisa, who is…wait for it… Carol’s Daughter. And the entire brand is dedicated to the relationship between mothers and their daughters. The brand was inspired by the mother-Daughter relationship that leads to the lifelong relationship with our hair, passed down from generation to generation.
Lisa started the brand in 1993 in her Kitchen in Brooklyn (Yes! It’s an American Brand) it was meant only for close family and friends, but everyone loved it so much, that soon the brand grew into the name it is today!
“Love is, and always will be, our first ingredient.” – Lisa
The Hair Milk:
⁃ it’s aimed to keep dry hair from resulting in frizzy curls.
⁃ It helps protect your hair from breakage, thirst and unmanageability.
⁃ It contains Shea Butter to Hydrate your curls.
⁃ Soybean oil has been added to soften and strengthen your hair.
⁃ It also has Agave Nectar to lock in moisture and keep hair extra healthy
When you squeeze it out of the bottle, it literally looks like Milk…and the best way I can describe it, is that it feels like rubbing love over your hair. You don’t need a lot of it, because it spreads through your hair so effortlessly, enriching every strand.
It’s got a very, very strong scent, that made my sinuses get all defensive, but once your hair dries, the scent neutralizes a bit and it’s actually quite pleasant.
The product does exactly what it says it will, my Hair was less frizzy and it feels and looks more moisturized. I just wish the frizz control lasted a bit longer because two days after my wash day, I can see the frizz creeping in again. But as a leave-in conditioner, it’s great because you don’t need to accompany it with anything else in order to have curls that look amazing.
Where can you get it?
The brand has just launched in South Africa and can be found at any Clicks store for R299 or on Takealot for R265.
So it’s on the pricey side. Honestly, are there other products that can give you the same results for cheaper? Yes. But Carol’s Daughter is Paraben free, petroleum free, contains no mineral oil and no artificial colors- so that should be considered when thinking about the price.
Have you tried Carol’s Daughter before? Let me know what you thought in the comments!
Whats Up 20 Somethings!
So, these are two items I got from the Clicks Curls event and I was very excited to try them out because I’ve heard so many amazing things about this range.
So let me start by telling you a bit about these products before I get started, okuuuuur?
The L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Low Shampoo:
- It contains no foam or sulphate surfactants.
- It’s enriched with 6 flower extracts for dry, fragile hair.
- It offers gentle cleansing with the non-foaming formula which delicately removes impurities.
- The Low Shampoo offers Easy detangling and anti-breakage thanks to the balm texture.
- The formula is gentle and provides nourishment to the hair fibre, which leaves your hair feeling soft to the touch.
The L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Curl Nourishment Masque:
- The ultra-rich formula is infused with Amla Oil and 6 precious flower oils.
- The masque envelops each fibre providing extreme nourishment without weighing the hair down.
- It has a buttery texture and a great fragrance which restores softness and increases elasticity and provides shine to your curls.
So, usually, I don’t like using commercial brands like L’Oreal – Whenever a big brand like this comes out with a “Natural Hair Product” it’s usually useless. But a lot of brands have stepped up their game and realised that women of South Africa don’t have hair like the rest of the world and we need shampoos and products that cater to our natural hair needs. But for a long time, I didn’t wanna try this product, even when my mom was on my case about this new L’Oreal for curly hair- I was just like, they’re not a traditional Natural hair care brand so I don’t trust it.
But then, I started hearing great things from the curly haired ladies in my life and I decided, I had to try it. Which is why it worked out great that I received it at the Clicks Curls Event.
So I Have been using these products for the past week and a half, I’ve used the Low Shampoo every second day and used the Nourishment Masque on every second wash.
And I love it.
Like, I don’t know what they did with this range but my hair feels like silk after I’ve used it. It’s made my hair extremely easy to comb through while the product is in- I’m a huge fan of the Low Shampoo, it’s so conditioning that you don’t really feel the need use a conditioner after you’ve cleansed your hair.
When my curls dry, they are extremely soft and bouncy as hell, and girl – TALK ABOUT SHINE!!
I can’t tell you which product works better as I have been using them in conjunction. I do use a leave-in conditioner after the Low Shampoo just to eliminate frizz and keep my hair in check for longer but honestly, you could go without a leave-in conditioner and still have extremely soft and luxurious curls. All I can say that this range is amazing and I’m sure the other products in it will yield amazing results like these did.
And I’m not even been paid to say that. I reviewed these products out of my own because, You deserve the best guys.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of the L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Range!
Hey 20 Somethings,
So I got sent the most amazing press drop last week from Schwarzkopf filled with all the new products they shared with us as their event a few weeks ago.
Just check out how amazing it looks:
Here are some pictures from the event and launch of these amazing products, which was held at the One and Only Hotel.
I’ve always thought of the brand Schwarzkopf as the brand my mommy uses, and with them being in business for 120 years, that’s probably true. But with their newer products they’re specifically trying to target the 20 Something audience, bringing products to the market that are game changers, no matter what your age is.
For the past week I’ve been testing out their Gliss Intense Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner on my hair. The product is aimed at reconstructing the inner hair bonds and protecting the hair, it works especially well for over processed hair due to coloring and styling. The Gliss intense Therapy works at repairing the bonds inside the hair and reconstructing it from deep within. It promises visibly revitalized locks and more resilience against future damage.
My first impression of the product was packaging and scent. The purple bottles make them instantly recognizable on the shelves of any store, and they’re super cute. When I sniffed the scent from the bottle I enjoyed the smell, however when I started using the product on my hair I found the smell to be extremely overpowering and fragranced. It smelt like I was applying a bottle of perfume to my hair. (I prefer natural scents in my hair care products, my sinuses can’t deal with overpowering smells.) The scent of the product during application smelt like a perfume my mom would use – not a fan. However once my hair dried the scent is not as strong and overpowering and it actually settles quite nicely, every time I get a whiff of my hair I’m like, “damn I smell good.”
I really liked what this product has done for my hair, my curls feel incredibly soft and I’ve experienced less breakage since I’ve started using this product. Check out the before and after pics:
My only concern is that is doesn’t do much to minimize frizz, and as a curly haired babe, that’s a must in a shampoo for me. This product is great if you’re someone who styles their hair a lot using heat, if you’re a natural hair goddess, this probably isn’t for you.

Until next time my beauties!
What’s up Beauties!
I felt super spoilt this week, when Rubybox sent me this amazing range from Justine. The Dailycare Hydrating Range is formulated for dry skin types and is a 3 step daily regimen.
Justine has really gone all out with the Dailycare range, they have formulated different ranges depending on your skincare needs. The Dailycare products includes ranges for Hydrating, Perfecting and Balancing the skin. As I have dry skin, I was sent the Hydrating range.
It’s clinically proven to increase hydration in the skin after one use for up to 8 hours.
I’ve been using this product for two weeks now and I can see the difference in my skin already.
The cleanser leaves my skin looking brighter immediately after I’ve washed it – it doesn’t make my skin feel dry, instead it feels so refreshed that I feel like I could just use the cleanser and go on with my day.
I’m not usually a fan of toners, but this one is quite nice- it’s a gel toner which is different to the toning liquids and lotions available on the market. It’s formulated to retain the skin’s natural moisture. Personally I feel that while it succeeds in removing excess dirt and bacteria on my skin, it leaves my skin feeling tight and in need of the moisturiser.
The Moisturiser is my favourite in the range, it has SPF 20, to protect your skin from the sun’s harsh rays but besides that it leaves my skin feeling EXTREMELY hydrated for hours. Literally it feels like I’ve just applied it even hours later.
I wasn’t familiar with this brand until I received this range, I haven’t seen it in any retail stores, I think it works like Avon, where you need to order products from a consultant. You can check out their website, it explains in depth how you can go about getting your hands on these amazing products:Justine Website
Check out my skin’s natural glow after two weeks of using this product:
And the best part? The range won’t break your bank. The Cleanser and the Toner go for R79 each and the moisturiser is R159. That’s R317 for the whole range!!!!!!!!!!
Have you used the Justine brand before? Let me know what your favourite products are in the comments.
